PiQ Ep.2 - No Games for Old Men

The PiQ Podcast

Did we ever say this podcast would be a regular thing? Whoops. After a hectic month or so, we finally sat down and got to discuss some of what we’ve been up to, including Kevin’s trip to Japan, the infallible legacy of Upton Sinclair and our collective realization that some games are just entirely too damn hard for old fogeys like us (and we’re not even that old).

More importantly, there’s also our discussion of Issue 2 and all the goodness therein, like how much we dig Sam & Max, Lucky Star, Iron Man, Tim and Eric, action movies, old game shows and pig creatures? Also, we have another sweet prize for those of you interested, so be sure to listen for that too.

Issue 2 - May 2008

Right about now, subscribers should be receiving their copies of PiQ, Issue 2 and for those of you just discovering PiQ, you should be seeing copies popping up in stores across the country.

This month, our cover story is all about Sam & Max and the history of the franchise, from the games to the comics to the TV series. We also had the opportunity to chat with series creator Steve Purcell and even worked with Telltale games to create an exclusive cover you won’t find anywhere else. For anyone who’s been following the franchise all these years, you won’t want to miss this issue, and even if you’ve never of Sam & Max, you’d be remiss to not check it out.

Issue 2 cover sneak peek

It’s hard to believe, but we’re already hard at work on putting together Issue 3 (except for Kevin and Scott, who are in the middle of some pansy vacation business). Of course, that also means that Issue 2, now printed and bound, should be on it’s way to readers in a matter of days.

The good news is that we know there are a ton of people that are going to absolutely love our cover story. The bad news? We’ll probably hear from the ones who don’t like it first, but nevertheless, we’re totally proud of it. Take a guess and see how right (or wrong) you are!

Now that we’ve slogged through our deadline for Issue 2, we’re able to share our much-delayed discussion about Issue 1 with all you fine folks.

If you have Issue 1, feel free to follow along as we talk about some initial reactions to the magazine, and go into a bit of discussion on Appleseed Ex Machina, Avatar, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Honey & Clover, recent legislation in Japan, Tweeny Witches, Battlestar Galactica, Independence Day (!), our Monitor think-piece “Is Anime Dead?” and more.

Issue 1 - April 2008

Cover

Ladies and gentlemen, here’s a look at the premiere issue of PiQ! Since our subscribers have already started receiving their copies and stores will be putting out issues in the next week, we thought now would be the perfect time to share with everyone all the stuff we’ve packed into this issue. That would include anime, movies, TV shows, comics, games, blood, sweat, tears and lots o’ love.

More specifically, our cover story is all about Appleseed Ex Machina and includes some exclusive access to producer John Woo as he discusses his involvement with the project. It’s a pretty good read and if you’re looking forward to catching this on DVD soon, you won’t want to miss our take on it.
