A circus of value…on the silver screen!

It looks like the oft-rumored BioShock movie is now for real, as Universal Pictures announced today that they’ll be developing 2K Games’ smash hit into a feature film. Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean) has been signed to direct and produce with John Logan (Sweeney Todd) currently in talks to do the screenplay. Something tells me that the underwatery, creature-filled goodness that is Rapture should be in some pretty safe hands with Verbinski and Universal at the helm. Little Sisters, Big Daddies, Splicers galore!
On the other hand, since a truly good video game movie has yet to be made (or has it?), I’m sure there are doubts that this will be the one to finally reach mainstream success. At first glance, it would seem that losing the game’s immersive, first-person perspective and interactivity would immediately put a damper on the show, but seeing some of the game’s great moments of suspense and terror play out on a big screen and being able to convey the characters with real actors might make a feature film that much stronger. If you’ve played BioShock, what’s your take?
